Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Have you been seeing SO many of these painted mason jars around at area boutiques and shops and flea markets?  We certainly have!   Though it looks difficult to pull off, and there ARE some nuances to the application – and working in some tiny spots, sometimes! – painting mason jars is really very, very easy. It’s quite easy to paint jars with MudPaint and there are just a few items needed for this project. Just like painting other rough and/or porous surfaces like succulent jars, terracotta pots, tile and even fireplaces, MudPaint famous adhesion is covering these jars so well! MudPaint is eco-friendly, LEED-compliant and it’s unique, clay-based formula with natural earthen materials requires little prep work and no waxing for a smooth coat.

And, by using MudPaint’s fantastic adhesion, you’ll feel confident it will stick for months and years down the road.  Painting Mason Jars is a fast, easy and colorful to cheer up any room and add a spot of color to any space.

What do you need?

Step 1:  Clean the entire exterior jar using a paper towel and rubbing alcohol.  Then wash with hot, soapy water and dry.

Step 2:  Paint the rim of the jar first and then flip it upside down to paint the whole jar.

Step 3:  Once dry, if needed apply a second coat.

Step 4:  Distress by sanding the rim, the threads, and the raised edges and wording.

Step 5:  Seal your jars with MudPaint’s wax using a brush in a horizontal motion.

Step 6:  Once dry, use a soft cloth to buff them.

That should be it!  As always, feel free to apply a coat of our famous Matte Finish clear coat to your finished jar.  It comes in the same matte finish as all of our other MudPaint colors and you can’t go wrong to give it a little extra protection.

We’d love to hear from you and get your pictures if you try this fun and short project around your house.  Send along any pictures or tag us in social — have fun with mason jars this Spring!
